Call for papers

The use and development of High Performance Computing in Latin America is steadily growing. The capabilities provided by clusters, grids and distributed systems promote research and innovation, while many applications now rely heavily on HPC infrastructure. Building on the great success of the previous five editions, CARLA 2019 was held in Turrialba, Costa Rica. The main goal of CARLA 2019 is to provide a regional forum fostering the growth of the HPC community in Latin America through the exchange and dissemination of new ideas, techniques and research in HPC and its application areas.

Program

CARLA 2019 featured two exciting tracks: High Performance Computing (HPC) and BioInspired Processing (BIP). The second is a new addition to the regular CARLA program and focuses on the synergies between the biological sciences and computer science. These synergies are bidirectional. On one hand, bioinspired computing applies computational paradigms inspired by the biological sciences, such as genetic algorithms, cellular automata and neural networks, to solve a large variety of problems across multiple domains. On the other hand, computer science has been applied successfully and is now considered indispensable for solving many biological problems. In both cases, the complexity of biological systems often requires HPC to tackle realistic problems where both the amount of data and the number of relationships among data elements can be monumental.

The conference program includes keynote and invited talks from academia and industry, full paper and poster sessions presenting mature work and new ideas in research, workshops, tutorials, discussion spaces and more.

Submission guidelines

Authors should consult the Springer authors guidelines and use the proceedings templates, either for LaTeX or for MS Word, for the preparation of their papers. See the Springer LNCS proceedings guidelines.

  • Springer encourages authors to include their ORCIDs in their papers.
  • The corresponding author of each paper must complete and sign a Consent to Publish form through which the copyright for the paper is transferred to Springer.
  • Paper submissions must be in English, the only official language of the conference.
  • Regular papers should not exceed 15 pages including references.
  • All submitted research papers were peer reviewed by at least three reviewers.
  • Only contributions not submitted elsewhere or currently under review were considered.
  • Only accepted contributions presented at the conference were included in the proceedings. Remote presentations were not allowed.

Paper submissions were handled electronically with the Springer Online Conference System (OCS): ocs.springer.com/ocs/home/CARLA2019.

All papers accepted for publication were included in the CARLA 2019 proceedings, published in the Springer CCIS series, Communications in Computer and Information Science. CCIS is abstracted and indexed in Scopus, DBLP, Google Scholar, EI Compendex, Mathematical Reviews and SCImago, and CCIS volumes are submitted for inclusion in ISI Proceedings.
